One Educator Makes the Case for Specialized Training
Updated: 21 minutes ago

Priscilla Rodd, a special education teacher in Jefferson County, WV delivered powerful testimony to the Jefferson County School Board in August 2026. She urged them to fund ASDEC training for math teachers stating she used her own funds to pay for the initial course, then persuaded her principal to use Title 1 funds to pay for her further training, along with other teachers from her school. Named Teacher of the Year for Jefferson County in 2023, Ms. Rodd stated that the ASDEC math training “allowed me to educate my students in ways I never could before, they made huge strides and made grade level skills” However, she continues, other teachers in the county do not have specialized training and therefore they do not know how to make grade level content accessible to all students but especially those with disabilities. She states that math and literacy teachers in her county are failing their students because they lack the type of training that ASDEC provides.
