WHY ASDEC
At ASDEC, we are committed to providing specialized education for dyslexic students. Our experienced educators and tailored programs ensure a holistic approach to learning, focusing on individual strengths and building confidence. In ASDEC's 25 years of structured excellence, over 500 educators have completed our IMSLEC-accredited therapy and practitioner-level training. They work with students in public, private and home-school environments.
ASDEC speaks with parents every day to provide guidance on testing, intervention and advocacy. We connect parents to grassroots parent support groups and we provide referrals to ASDEC therapists. ASDEC also has over 20 years of experience serving children directly during our summer program which brings the best components of our research-based training into the classroom.

Our History
In 2000, Claire Nissenbaum, F/AOGP. M.A., CAT founded ASDEC to help dyslexic children and adults overcome barriers to learning. Along with the clinical psychologist Betty Levinson, with whom she had partnered since 1974, Ms. Nissenbaum developed the only training center in the Washington, DC region that offers IMSLEC accredited, IDA endorsed evidence-based structured, multisensory techniques in language skills (decoding, fluency, spelling, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension) and math.
Our Vision & Mission
ASDEC is a leader in training, support, and advocacy of evidence-based multisensory teaching strategies that benefit all learners but are essential for individuals who are dyslexic or have learning differences.
As a nationally accredited professional development center, ASDEC trains and certifies Academic Therapists and educates teachers, tutors, parents, and school leaders in effective methods to help individuals who are dyslexic or have other learning differences. Through our efforts, we enable individuals to achieve success, to acquire increased confidence in their talents, and to realize their full potential.
