ASDEC Getting Ready for Middle School
Grades 5 and above
July 7-24, 2026 from 10:00-11:30
St. Andrew the Apostle School
This summer review program is appropriate for students who have language-based and/or related disabilities who have unfinished learning in foundation skills but some degree of familiarity with upper elementary content.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Rising 5th grade and above Students (based on pre-assessment and documentation).
WHAT STUDENTS LEARN
We will review basic numeracy and place value concepts with a focus on fractions as they relate to whole numbers. We explore the concepts surrounding multiplication and division, but we will not drill math facts for rote memory. Rather, we will explore patterns that aid reasoning and memory to address these deficits common to students with language-based disabilities. We will stress the long division algorithm and multidigit arithmetic, which form the core of middle school math. Our final week will be devoted to fraction and decimal concepts. Students must commit to attending all three weeks of the program, and no exceptions will be allowed. This is due to the nature of the way interlinking concepts may be presented simultaneously with complexity developed over time. Students must be able to function in a group as well as independently with instructor support.
