April 17, 2010: Written Language and the LD Student:
Presented by ASDEC Staff & Siena Faculty at the Siena School, this workshop models strategies for addressing
the structure of written language with students of all ages. Participants will learn multisensory strategies for teaching an incremental process approach to writing and improving sentences, paragraphs, multi‐paragraph essays and research papers.

Sounds In Syllables (SIS): Sounds in Syllables is a multisensory, structured, systematic, diagnostic approach; the teaching plan is based on continuous assessment of the student's needs. SIS provides teachers with teachers research-based strategies that improve academic performance for students who struggle with reading.
Multisensory Math: Participants will learn the basic methodology, research and rationale of Multisensory Math. They will learn how to use Orton-Gillingham-based principles, strategies, techniques, and structured procedures to teach concepts, skills, rules and facts. These techniques successfully move students from the concrete (objects) to the representational (pictorial) to the abstract (symbol) level. Students achieve
success through adequate practice and repetition using a variety of
multi-sensory activities such as games, quantity representations, and
place value concepts.
Learning Strategies/Study Skills: Teaches structured procedures and efficient techniques for mastery of content subjects. Participants will learn effective methods to help students improve their memory, attention, and motivation. Teachers using these techniques will see immediate results in improved comprehension, motivations and overall student performance.
Building Blocks of Reading: This training introduces multisensory language instruction: a hands-on approach for teaching the foundations of reading. Valuable for teachers, parents, tutors and other professionals interested in the Orton-Gillingham approach. Topics include:
