MATH LEVEL TEACHING CERTIFICATION
Multisensory Math Specialist
ASDEC’s teaching level certification in Multisensory Math is designed for educational
professionals working with students who struggle to learn math, especially those children
who have learning disabilities or who are English language learners.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Certification Requirements
Courses:
1) Multisensory Math I: Summer Session - 30 hours in class/15 hours off-site
2) Multisensory Math II: Winter Session - 30 hours in class/15 hours of site
3) Multisensory Structured Language Education 1: Introduction to Sounds in
Syllables: - Summer Session – two-week intensive course – 60 hours
Participants may earn 3 graduate credits for each of these courses from Catholic
University of America through the Fund for Education for an additional fee.
Practicum Requirements:
Participants must teach one pro-bono practicum student two times per week for a
minimum of 40 hours or participate in ASDEC’s summer practicum.
Supervised Teaching:
Participants must teach one pro-bono practicum student two times per week for a
minimum of 40 hours or participate in ASDEC’s summer practicum.
Participants must complete at total of 100 hours of supervised teaching (these include the 40 hour pro bono reqiorement). Trainees will meet two times per month with a supervisor for a total of 10 months (20 total meetings) and submit one videotaped teaching session per month.
Career Possibilities
Certified Multisensory Math Teachers are qualified to teach students who struggle
with basic concepts and operations in math at the elementary and middle school levels.
ASDEC will refer qualified students to Certified teachers
